War Dogs Memorial Service in Riverside, California. Feb. 2006

This year was the 6th memorial service for our War Dogs in Riverside and was the best one for me. I first want to thank Mike McKelroy and "MO" Johnson for all of the dedicated work they did to make this memorial truly memorable.

I was so pleased with all the speakers. They were;
Brigadier General Ronald Flynn - LAUSD, Military Liaison
Lieutenant Colonel Martin Spann - LAPD
LAPD Chief Bratton
Mike Parcells- LBPD K9 Handler
Jeffrey Bennet - President, War Dog Memorial Fund
Bill Densmore - Riverside County Veterans Service Officer

I was especially pleased to meet and have my photo taken with Chief Bratton. After seeing him on TV news so often, it was an honor to meet the man in person.

My son, Chris, took photos of this moving service, and we want to share these with you:

I passed through Chiriaco Summit in California. It is home to the George S. Patton Memorial Museum, I stopped because I wanted to take a picture of the dog leash that had been found about 50 miles east of the museum. It was found on a tank training ground from WWII. The grounds are well kept, and there is a large statue of George S. Patton and his dog Willie (short for William the Conquerer.) My son and I toured the grounds years ago, and since then they have added a lot more tanks.

The museum is open 9 to 5 daily,

Recently my wife and I made final arrangements for our elderly dog, Molly. We found Sea Breeze Pet Cemetery in Huntington Beach. While we were there we found that quite a few police dogs have been buried there, with full honors. There is a display inside the building, and the headstone of a dog from WWII that is buried on the grounds. There is also a statue to Sarge, the WWII dog near the front of the building. Brenda was so helpful; we found this difficult task easier to do than we had thought. My son and wife went back, and my son took photos. It was pleasant for them to walk around and read the wonderful headstones with all the sweet names of beloved pets. My wife's favorite name was a rabbit named Marshmallow.

Sea Breeze was the only facility that we found that did single animal cremations, which was so important to us.
